Why Should I Hire A Trainer?

Do you want to hire a personal trainer to help you get in shape, but wonder if you should make the financial investment? Working with a trainer can push your fitness level forward much faster than working out on your own.

Here are six reasons why hiring a skilled personal trainer is such a great investment:

1. Trainers provide accountability and motivation

Do you honestly want to face your trainer and tell him that you didn’t do that workout yesterday? Your trainer has a vested interest in seeing that you complete your workouts, and will keep you accountable in staying on track with your overall program. Also, given that hiring a personal trainer is a financial investment, do you really want to slack off and feel like you aren’t getting the most out of the investment? This financial investment alone is a great motivation to stay on track with the trainer.

2. Trainers provide expertise

A good personal trainer will watch closely to ensure that you are doing the exercises properly to maximize your results and minimize risk of injury. Observing and critiquing one's form during an exercise is something most people cannot do on their own. While a person is usually unaware of a mistake in his or her exercise form, the trainer will be able to correct the mistake in real-time so that the risk of injury is eliminated and the corrected movement pattern is wired into the brain as the new normal pattern.

3. A trainer will push you just enough

A trainer will push you harder than you will push yourself, but will also prevent you from chasing results too quickly and risking injury. Oftentimes, people arbitrarily pick a number of reps in an exercise without understanding the impact it's having on the body, if any at all. A good trainer knows how to push you beyond your comfort zone and when to stop before injury sets in.

4. A trainer helps you identify and reach goals

A good trainer will sit down with you to help you establish SMART goals. These SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Right for you, Time-oriented) will maximize your results because the trainer will have helped you personalize them. Your trainer will also help you notice improvements that you wouldn’t even think about, which is especially helpful if discouragement tries to set in.

5. A trainer will personalize your workout

Quality personal trainers know how to customize a workout based on your individual strengths, weaknesses and goals. They also know best how to help you compound your results as you continue to progress from following the program consistently.

6. Trainers can reduce the possibility of injury

An injury can quickly derail an exercise program, which can then result in discouragement and loss of momentum with the program. A good trainer will help you perform each workout safely and effectively so that the risk of injury is minimized and results are maximized.
